Behind the Book: Back-of-the-book Blurb

My publisher says it’s time to write the blurb for the back of my new book, explaining that I know the book better than anyone else. IMHO, that’s exactly why I’m not the one to write it, but I’ll never win that argument (heavy sigh.)

So here it is. I’ve decided that in the future I’m going to write the blurb first, then write the novel!

The Copper Egg:

The  ancient Chimu believed their people came from three eggs: the rulers from a gold egg, their wives from a silver, and the working class from a copper egg.

Archeaologist Claire Adams returns to Peru determined to find the treasure-filled tomb of King Chaco before a ruthless band of looters can find it themselves and steal the treasure. She’s aided in her search by old friends, and by an ancient Chimu copper egg. Claire’s other goal is to avoid her ex, Sochi Castillo, whose betrayal still burns. Meanwhile, Sochi Castillo’s world becomes increasingly dangerous as she leads two lives—one within the law, one very far outside it. When she learns Claire has returned, Sochi resolves to protect her wounded heart. But as Claire and Sochi are drawn into a web of intrigue from which there’s almost no escape, they discover that love complicates everything.

  1. Archaeologist Claire Adams has two goals as she returns to Peru. She is determined to find the treasure-filled tomb of Chimu ruler King Chaco. She knows a ruthless band of looters can find it themselves and steal the treasure. Her second goal is to avoid her ex, Sochi Castillo, whose betrayal still burns. She is aided in her search by trusted friends and by an ancient Chimu copper egg. When Sochi learns Claire has returned, she resolves to protect her wounded heart. As Sochi’s world becomes increasingly dangerous- one life within the law and one life very far outside it-Claire and Sochi are drawn into a web of intrigue from which they must escape. Will love complicate everything?

  2. The ancient Chimu people of Peru…….
Then, how does Claire come to possess the egg, or if that’s too much of the plot, why does she have the copper egg and not the others, something to connect her to the egg.

As Juliann suggested, mention two goals right from the beginning-why does she know that Sochi is there?Maybe, “Also in Peru, is Sochi, Claire’s ex who has her own challenges etc.” It needs some tension. Why the story of the THREE eggs?

    Leaving the creativity to you.

The Big Pivot

About Me

After twenty-five years on the farm, I’m adjusting to the adventures of city life. Part of that adjustment is figuring out what I want to write about now, since sheep are no longer part of my daily life. I’m challenging myself creatively by painting with pastels and playing the ukelele as I seek my new writing path.
